Continuing Medical Education

The Committee on Continuing Medical Education (CME) of the Philippine Society of Critical Care Medicine (PSCCM) is dedicated to advancing the expertise of critical care practitioners through structured, evidence-based educational initiatives. Led by Chair Dr. Bernard Benjamin P. Albano and a diverse team of specialists from various medical institutions, the committee organizes a comprehensive calendar of activities designed to enhance clinical reasoning and multidisciplinary collaboration.

The committee’s primary objectives focus on improving patient safety, strengthening pathophysiological understanding, and standardizing protocols within the ICU. To achieve this, they oversee several key programs:

• Interhospital Grand Rounds: Quarterly sessions featuring case presentations and evidence-based discussions to bridge practice gaps between different medical centers.
• Lessons from the ICU Series: Hands-on workshops covering critical technical skills, including the Philippine PoCUS Academy (ultrasound), Master the Vent (mechanical ventilation), and PULSE (hemodynamics).
• PSCCM Masterclasses: A series of collaborative webinars with industry partners focusing on advanced topics like sepsis management, neurocritical care, and nutrition optimization.
• Specialized Symposia: High-level training such as the ECMO Symposium, which addresses complex life support strategies.

These activities are tailored for a broad audience of healthcare professionals, including residents, fellows, consultants across various specialties (Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Pulmonology, Anesthesia, and Surgery), and ICU nurses.
